Time in Manila -
I was very skeptical but after a pleasant and informative conversation
we chose to move forward. A painless process and lots of
good communication is what made this a pleasant and bearable
experience. Not to mention how inexpensive Filam Immi-gration
is.

What must I do Next?
Adjustment of
Status I-485
Simply because your loved one has arrived on U.S. soil, it does not mean
the foreigner can remain in the U.S. without first returning home.
There
are many U.S. citizens married to foreigners who reside all over the world,
outside the U.S. The marriage itself is not a ticket to the U.S. Immigration
processing is still required.
|
|
OOPS! You forgot to upload swfobject.js !
You must upload this file for your form to work.
| |
|
Marriage to a U.S. citizen forms a basis for immigration processing,
but that
process is still required and must be done correctly before the foreign Fiancee
or foreign bride can reside lawfully in the US on a permanent basis.
If the foreigner entered the U.S. on either a K1 Fiancee visa or K3
spousal visa, then the foreigner is welcome to remain in the U.S. and apply to
become a U.S. permanent resident green card holder based on a marriage to a U.S.
citizen. |

How to Apply for a Social
Security Number If You Have K-1 Fiancee Visa?
If your Alien Fiancee or Spouse
came to the USA
on a K1 or K3 they need to do the following?
Apply
for an Adjustment of Status in
order to become a green card holder.
The now married Alien Fiancee may also apply for
Employment Authorization.
It is also advisable for your Alien (Fiancee now Spouse) to apply for an
Advance Parole Document due to any unforeseen reason such as a
death or family emergency in the Aliens home Country.
In order for your Alien wife to re-enter the U.S.A. without any problems. If he
or she does leave the U.S.A. before obtaining the Advance Parole she will for
sure be denied entry. The Advance Parole is only needed for K1 Visa entries and
not K3 Visa entries.
K3 Visas are not required to file
for the Advance Parole.
Usually the Alien can apply for their US Citizenship once they have
obtained their 10 year green card. So it varies from individual to individual
based on the time of applying for their permanent resident green card.
Citizenship can take up to 5 years or longer to receive. The U.S. does allow for
dual Citizenship.

How
to Apply for a Social Security
Number if You Have K-1 Fiance or
Fiancee VisaThere are important documents that you need to show to your local Social
Security office if you come to the U.S. and married your fiance or
fiancee through a K-1 visa. The question is, how can you get a Social
Security number so you can also work?
►Take note that the K-1 symbol in your visa means that you are a
fiancé/fiancée of a U.S. citizen and you're eligible for a
Social Security number and also for employment.
►Complete an application for a Social Security Card (Form
SS-5) in order to apply for a Social Security number
►Prepare pertinent documents to prove your immigration
status, work eligibility, age and identity before going to
the Social Security office nearest your area. Bring your
passport with your biographical information or photograph in
it and your recent marriage certificate (original copy) or
driver's license (original copy).
►Remember that the Social Security Administration has an
official site featuring recent online forms, benefits
information, and other services so before going to their
office, you may download Form SS-5 and fill-up your
application. You can't immediately see this form in the
front page of their website so just type "Form SS-5" in
their search box and click "go" when you visit their
website. After that, you'll be directed to another web page
where you can download the form through a PDF Text Version.
►After filling-up your application form SS-5, bring your
original documents to your nearest local Social Security
office since you may need to apply in person. If possible,
it would be good if you'll be accompanied by your American
husband or wife.
Tips & Warnings:
Try to come early in the morning to your nearest local
Social Security office when you apply in person to avoid
a long line of applicants.
Just be sure that all documents must be either
originals or copies that are only certified by the
issuing agency. Do not waste your time going there
bringing not original documents because the Social
Security officers will not accept photocopies or
notarized copies of documents.
Things You'll Need:
- Money for applicable fee
- Your passport with biographical information or
photograph in it
- Marriage certificate (original copy)
